WARNING, THE CONTENTS OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE TOO MUCH FOR SOME VIEWERS.  This case is EXTREMELY disturbing.  The video associated to this may be too much for adults and children should NOT be allowed to view this.

The full post of this is too much for me to put here on the front page, so I am not going to include the video.  If you want to watch (which I HIGHLY warn against), I suggest you head on over to any number of pages hosting it.

The portions that I am comfortable posting here is what follows along with my comments;

My comments first.

I agree with what Mercy For Animals are saying about this case.  I think the people that have perpetrated this should be put through the same treatment they have laid out upon their animals. I also disagree with the $100,000.00 bail.  There should be NO bail.

I do not however agree that this is a reason for veganism.  If being a vegan or vegetarian is your thing, have at it.  I for one enjoy steak and pork products WAY too much to stop eating them because some idiot in Ohio (or any other location for that matter) does something like this.

We get our meat from known trusted sources (most of it) and know how the animals are treated.

Over at Mercy For Animals web site, they have footage during an investigation they did into dairy farm workers sadistically abusing cows and young calves.

Seen over at MercyForAnimals web site:

Chilling undercover footage recorded during a new Mercy For Animals investigation exposes dairy farm workers sadistically abusing cows and young calves.

Captured on hidden camera, the shocking scenes of abuse reveal a culture of cruelty at Conklin Dairy Farms in Plain City, Ohio.

During a four-week investigation between April and May, MFA’s investigator documented farm workers:

* Violently punching young calves in the face, body slamming them to the ground, and pulling and throwing them by their ears
* Routinely using pitchforks to stab cows in the face, legs and stomach
* Kicking “downed” cows (those too injured to stand) in the face and neck – abuse carried out and encouraged by the farm’s owner
* Maliciously beating restrained cows in the face with crowbars – some attacks involving over 40 blows to the head
* Twisting cows’ tails until the bones snapped
* Punching cows’ udders
* Bragging about stabbing, dragging, shooting, breaking bones, and beating cows and calves to death

There has also been an update to this case over at the Columbus Dispatch:

The Marysville city prosecutor asked the state to step in yesterday and assist in the criminal investigation prompted by the video. Once inspectors got to the farm, they found dead animals that hadn’t been buried deep enough according to Ohio law, said Cindy Kalis, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

“With all the recent rains, the animals apparently washed to the surface,” she said. She was not in the office late today and was without benefit of the report, so she didn’t know how many animals were discovered or how deeply the law requires them to be buried.

She said the farm has only a few days to fix the situation before the state takes more serious action.

Also today, the man who was the star of that video appeared in court for the first time, and told the judge he is a wounded Army veteran of the war in Iraq and is about to take his exam to become an Ohio police officer.

I don’t know about you, but would you want this guy as a cop??? And it disgusts me that a soldier would stoop as low as this.  He brings disgrace to the US Armed Forces.

Please understand, not all dairy farmers or farmers are like this.  I know quite a few and there are several within my family.  They DEFINITELY treat their animals better as they are part of their lively hood.  Something like what happened here would NEVER cross their minds.

  1. I been so wrapped up in horse rescues and before we start another week I googled this story as a friend told me about it. I could only take about two min. of footage. I am furious, devasted and sick from it. What is the latest on this case? He needs to be put away in mental hospital as that is only legal thing you can do with him. He for sure fits profile of a violent unstable person that is or will be capable of so much more. What is next for him people? I am sure he has done that already too. I will follow up further in what the prosector does here. If need be start a rally of calls coming in asking for the max. and keep him off the streets. This is just asking for loose canion bomb letting him out. Shear menace to animals and society this one.

  2. got latest. Also mass protest sched. Monday was cxl. police secured the area before even got started. Public out cry is high and demanding stronger penality!

    The Union County Human Society also said
    “… Ohio law does not currently allow felony charges on farm animal abuse. On Thursday, the Ohio House of Representatives voted to approve House Bill 55, which would increase animal cruelty laws from a second degree misdemeanor to a first degree misdemeanor and mandated psychological exam, mental health treatment, and suspension of the ability to care for any animals, as well as more.”
    The release went on to say that Gregg could face up to 90 days in jail for each cruelty charge, if found guilty. Other arrests might result from the investigation. The public outcry over the documented cruelty is huge and growing bigger by the day. Change’s petition campaign has just about reached its target of 20,000 signatures already. I for one will be signing the petition.
