Local Author – Don Helin – Thy Kingdom Come

On Saturday, when we were down at the Midtown Scholar Book Festival and the HoPo Road Show, I met Don Helin.  He’s a local author that wrote Thy Kingdom Come.

From his website:

Don Helin is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota where he attended the University of Minnesota.  After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served in posts across the United States, and overseas in Vietnam and Germany.

After a career in the military, Don spent a number of years in Washington D.C. as a lobbyist for industry, giving him more material for thrillers.

Don used his experience in the Pentagon to create Colonel Sam Thorpe.  In the fictionalized world of Thy Kingdom Come, Sam has served twenty-five years in the Army, the last six as a member of the Pentagon’s elite anti-terrorist task force.

Don is an active member of the International Thriller Writers and Pennwriters.

I picked up and he personalized a copy of Thy Kingdom Come:

Colonel Sam Thorpe, a member of the Pentagon’s anti-terrorist task force goes undercover to train “The Patriots,” a homegrown white supremacist militia in central Pennsylvania.

His job—get close to self-appointed general Quentin Oliver, a disgruntled
ex-Marine colonel who plans to steal cesium-137 from a local university and construct seven dirty bombs. During training sessions, Sam uncovers a link between Oliver and the French Separatist Movement in Quebec.

Sam is isolated with only one person in his corner, FBI covert agent Alex Prescott, a kick-ass woman with spiked blond hair and a personality to match.  Will the two be enough or is the world about to realize its worst nightmare?

I spoke to him for a little bit and he seems like a pretty decent guy.  I’m all about supporting new and/or local authors as well as someone would is willing to take the time to talk to his readers.

I’m going to put this book on the fast track to finish it and if I like it, which I think I will, I’ll be having a contest in which you can win a personalized copy of his book.

Stay tuned for a review and most likely contest.
